MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS REWARDS
As a distribution cooperative, we at United constantly look for ways to help members control their energy costs. Through a national program we now have an opportunity to help our members save money—possibly significant sums of money—while also demonstrating another benefit of being a member of an electric co-op and showing that we look out for our members’ best interests.
The Co-op ConnectionsSM Card offers co-op members the benefit of product and service discounts and participating retail businesses the benefit of increased customer traffic and sales.
Now with a new mobile app, members can experience newly expanded nationwide saving possibilities.
The Co-op Connections Program has gone digital with a new smartphone app so members can take the savings with them on their smart phones. Members can review all participating businesses easily through the app, use coupons straight from their phone or computer and receive deals from local businesses as well as thousands of national companies.
First, United sought out local businesses willing to offer discounts to Co-op Connections cardholders (our members). Second, members received their cards in the mail and can show them at participating businesses to receive the discounts. The card's pharmacy discount will save United members 10-60 percent on prescriptions at more than 48,000 national and regional pharmacy chain stores, including Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Target and many more—thanks to a deal with New Benefits, a nationally recognized provider of noninsured health benefits.
The Co-op Connections Card program is an effective economic development tool, designed so that participating businesses will benefit from free promotions in co-op communications and advertising materials.
Cardholders can see a roster of businesses offering discounts by logging on to our website. Participating businesses will also be identifiable by a Co-op Connections sticker on their storefront windows.
Just as United has secured local discounts, so have more than 500 other electric co-ops across the country. Currently, 511 co-ops in 46 states participate in the program. More than 32,000 local and national business offerings are available to each member through the app. Savings include discounts on hotels, event tickets and at variety of brand name retail outlets.
Members can still use their wallet card exclusively in United’s service territory, which can be provided by the co-op or downloaded from the new connections.coop website. However, a distinctive difference members have between the mobile app and plastic card is the convenience of saving while traveling. By simply adjusting the zip codes on the mobile app, members can take advantage of co-op-specific discounts as they travel between co-op service territories across the country.
To begin saving with the app, members can create an account on www.connections.coop. Once they have created an account they can download the mobile app and immediately start saving.
