UCS Warns of Potential Scam
United is warning all members and the general public of a potential attempted scam that reportedly occurred yesterday in Erath County.
According to several posts on social media, a man rang a resident’s doorbell and, upon being greeted, said he wanted to check the resident’s electricity.
The resident saw no company vehicle and when asked about this, the man said “they dropped me off at the corner.” When the man failed to provide proper company credentials, the resident wisely told him they were going to call the police and he left.
While this person did not identify himself as a United Cooperative Services employee, this type of questionable activity has occurred in the cooperative’s service territory over the years.
Please note: If you have any questions as to the validity of a United employee's identification, contact your local United office immediately. Even after normal business hours, the cooperative has a 24-hour dispatch that can validate United employee credentials.
Please be careful!
