Co-op Connections Program Offers Value to United Cooperative Services Members
As a distribution cooperative, we constantly look for ways to help members control their energy costs. Through a national program we now have an opportunity to help our members save money—possibly significant sums of money—while also demonstrating another benefit of being a member of an electric co-op and showing that we look out for our members’ best interests.
The Co-op ConnectionsSM Card offers co-op members the benefit of product and service discounts and participating retail businesses the benefit of increased customer traffic and sales.
First, United sought out local businesses willing to offer discounts to Co-op Connections cardholders (our members). Second, members received their cards in the mail and can show them at participating businesses to receive the discounts.
The card has a pharmacy discount associated with it. Members will save 10%-60% on prescriptions at more than 48,000 national and regional pharmacy chain stores, including Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Target and many more—thanks to a deal with New Benefits, a nationally recognized provider of noninsured health benefits.
The Co-op Connections Card program is an effective economic development tool, designed so that participating businesses will benefit from free promotions in co-op communications and advertising materials.
Cardholders can see a roster of businesses offering discounts by logging on to our Web site. Participating businesses will also be identifiable by a Co-op Connections sticker on their storefront windows.
In addition to local businesses, a variety of national businesses and chains, such as rental car companies, hotels and restaurants, apparel outlets, florists, etc. are offering discounts. All national deals can be viewed at www.connections.coop.
One of the goals of the program is to help members save the equivalent of one month’s electric bill using the Co-op Connections Card and members from many other cooperatives around the country have seen those types of savings.
